About this deal

Video is Absolutely superb, this movie got one hell of a makeover, could not fault a single area, the blacks are superb, the colors vibrant, truly a classic. There's also a lot of interesting trivia, such as how the “cold breath” from the ice cave scene was a surplus CGI effect from 'Titanic' which the producers decided to use! From these sections you can watch various sections, with commentary by the following people - Kevin Haug (visual effects supervisor), Cliff Wenger (special effects coordinator), Kevin Mack (visual effects supervisor for Digital Domain), and Richard 'Doc' Bailey (digital animation supervisor/producer). This is perhaps the polar opposite of a Pixar movie in which every color of the rainbow appears on screen. The characters, the storyline, the visuals, everything about this movie just reaches out and grabs me, and won’t let go, even after the end credits have rolled by.

Adapted from Chuck Palahniuk's novel, David Fincher's drama explores themes of masculinity and violence in contemporary society. Of the versions of the transfer I acquired – I liked the D-VHS version the best despite its occasional possible noise-reduction/artifacts. The Art Gallery features behind-the-scenes photos, lobby cards, pre-production artwork and lots of other goodies.Next is Flogging Fight Club , a hilarious bit on the movie receiving a “manly” award on Spike TV (hosted by none other than Mel Gibson in a Viking helmet). Painstaking effort was obviously put into it, but you may find yourself reaching for the remote to brighten it up a bit.

Also, while the movie often adheres too rigidly to the Chuck Pahlniuk novel of the same name, there are some deviations that make little-to-no sense (the dramatic scale is lessened when the final denouement is a "controlled demolition" instead of a "murder suicide"). Skin tones look good, detail is heightened (especially in regards to textures and fabric - Norton and Pitt's dilapidated mansion never looked so gloriously grimy), and there are no instances of artificial sharpening or DNR.There are moments in the soundtrack that definitely blow you away volume-wise, while simultaneously there are those quiet moments that draw you in with the subtleties. An Interview with Cronenweth in American cinematographer records Fincher’s preference for both natural and pre-existing lighting in locations over elaborate lighting setups.

Stuff like a thin, misty layer of dust that trails the giant art ball in the 'Operation Latte Thunder' sequence, which was impossible to discern on the previous release. He had enjoyed moderate success with the stylish horror-thriller Se7en a few years prior, but it was Fight Club that truly put him on the filmmaking map. There are reviews elsewhere that enumerate the full list of features and behind the scenes content, I won’t waste your time by repeating them. I think not: Comparing frames by overlaying them throughout the feature I can see subtle geometric differences in the shots that suggest this is a fresh transfer. Ultimately, there are two home video versions of Fight Club, based on either the 1999 or 2008 transfer.Standing amongst those giants, 'Fight Club' still towers as a singular experience, one that seems to almost burst with the limitless possibilities of turn-of-the-century filmmaking. The entire room is ripped in half and I swore that I could feel the immense rush of wind from all channels tousling my hair! An insomniac office worker and a devil-may-care soapmaker form an underground fight club that evolves into something much, much more. The Laserdisc transfer is a bit softer, noisier, and has a far lower resolution, as well as being slightly horizontally cropped compared to the DVD. An interactive experience introduced by the sound designer Ren Klyce, in which the user can mix the sounds of selected scenes of the movie.
